Meal train guide
A meal train for new parents works best when it starts the week the baby comes home and runs for four to six weeks. Bring food a new mom can eat with one hand, pack extra meals for the freezer, drop off without staying long, and add help with older kids, errands and laundry.
Free, no ads. Takes under 1 minute.
Before the due date
Ask about allergies, freezer space, and who else is already helping.

Every family is different
Twins, a NICU stay and a toddler at home each change what helps. Ask the parents first.
Cleveland Clinic says to avoid driving for about two weeks, and that most providers recommend limiting lifting for several weeks.3 Sign up for school runs, grocery pickups and errands.
DoorDash gift cards and donations for unexpected costs. Help out with the pets or kids so the parents can spend time at the NICU. Save home meals for discharge.
With 10 to 12 feeds in 24 hours,2 snacks and water within reach matter as much as dinner.
Offer a park afternoon or a school pickup, and cook kid-friendly dinners.
Add more signups than you originally planned for. Offer to help in specific ways and tackle chores for the busy parents.
The same sleepless nights. Plan it around the placement date.
Drop-off
New parents may limit visitors or have specific desires for dropoffs.1 Respect the family and their wishes when delivering food.
A doorbell, a knock, or a barking dog can wake a sleeping baby, so check in with the family before reaching the door.
If you are feeling sick, choose a DoorDash or meal delivery gift card instead. Don't handmake any food and don't visit.
Unless they invite you in, hand it over and go.
Offer to carry out the trash or recycling.

FAQ
Most start the day the family gets home from the hospital. Babies rarely arrive on the due date, so set the meal train up a few weeks ahead with a rough start date, then move it once the baby is here. For a scheduled C-section or an adoption placement date, you can plan the first week exactly.
Four to six weeks is plenty. Cleveland Clinic says a full recovery from a C-section can take between four and six weeks. Two or three dinners a week covers most families, with extra help in the first two weeks.3
Food that reheats well and can be eaten with one hand: chicken enchiladas, lasagna or baked ziti in a foil pan, breakfast burritos, soup in quart containers, sheet-pan chicken, a taco bowl kit, or chili with cornbread. Add a snack basket for night feeds, and a meal delivery gift card for the nights nobody signed up. If there are older kids, bring something they will eat too.
Snacks they can eat one-handed, a big water bottle, their usual coffee order, and gift cards for food delivery. Cleveland Clinic lists help with childcare, cleaning and making meals among the things new parents can ask for, so taking an older child to the park or folding a load of laundry counts as much as dinner. You can schedule any type of support alongside your meal train with Rallee.1
Yes, especially from the third week on, when the first wave of fresh dinners slows down. Pack them in disposable pans or flat freezer bags, portion them for two, and write the dish, the date and the reheating steps on the lid. Ask how much freezer space they have before three lasagnas show up on the same day.
Only if the parents offer. The American Academy of Pediatrics describes cocooning a newborn: relatives are up to date with immunizations, including the whooping cough (Tdap) and flu vaccines, and practice good hygiene like hand washing. If you are sick, leave dinner on the step and head home, or order delivery for them this time.6
Keep showing up, and take it seriously. The CDC reports that about 1 in 8 women with a recent live birth reported symptoms of postpartum depression. ACOG says the baby blues usually get better within a few days or 1 to 2 weeks, and that postpartum depression most commonly starts about 1 to 3 weeks after childbirth. The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline is 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262), by call or text.45
On Rallee it takes under 1 minute. Add the parents' names and the dates you want covered, turn on meals and anything else that helps, like coffee, help with kids or errands, then add dietary needs and drop-off notes and share the link. Friends pick a day, and more than one person can sign up on the same day. Rallee costs nothing and shows no ads, and the pages people create are not indexed by search engines.
